Spent a couple of hours knocking my head against the wall to get my Gravatar to work until I realised I was being stupid, and voila, instantly it worked. Yay!

LA1 final project and presentation
The first year of landscape architecture is at its end.
Today I presented my final concept for the site we have been working on this spring. The final project was individual, and I started more or less from scratch, aside from the analysis I had already completed. This is a summary of what I presented for the class and sensors.
The site in question is located in Tøyen, Oslo. The metro, as well as bus stops, are within immediate range. Most of the site is used as parking space, thus it’s also easily accessible by car. It’s an area known by many, due to the nearby attractions – namely the Munch museum which borders the south, the Botanical gardens and various museums within covering the west side, and Tøyen culture park across the road bordering the east. Apartment buildings make up the northern limit of the site.

Concepts and models 2.0
By now we have finished three concepts for our site, built models, and are scheduled to present the work on Monday 1st. After our initial analysis and brainstorming we quickly got on track with conceptualization. Our idea was simple enough – to divide the existing functions of the site into three separate concepts.
Our area is split in mainly three parts; a parking area, a football field which hosts as circus in the summertime, and a small, triangular park which basically consists of a lawn and a couple of trees. (More …) -

Analysis > concept sketching > model building
In groups of two we were to choose a segment of our area to analyze further, and then start creating concepts and ideas for the site. We chose the area between the Botanical Gardens at Tøyen and the park across Finnmarkgata on the eastern side – a place used mainly for parking for the Munch-museum, along with a square football field used exclusively in summertime.

Analysis of the site – rough volume estimations, room segments, light and space, moods and colors, terrain and movement patterns, general form and functionLast week we started building our first models. This is how it looks at the experimental stage:

All good fun so far, next week it’s to develop our proposed concepts further and see what we end up with.

The first babysteps of urban space analysis
So, analysing urban spaces in Oslo was a cold affair; it being one of the coldest winters in ages. We got the task of picking a site that intrigued us in some way, explain our choice, and draw a plan and section of it afterwards. The first small steps were completed this weekend, here’s a small snippet of it:

2009 in short
It’s nearing the end of 2009. At the moment I’m sitting with a stream of Digitally Imported‘s trance channel, waiting for Ferry Corsten’s year mix. Tomorrow I’m going to celebrate New Year’s Eve with some close friends. It’s been a great year for me personally – If 2010 will continue in the same direction, I have everything to look forward to. Here’s to a happy new year for all of you.
